Presence

I reflect for a moment on God's presence around me and in me.
Creator of the universe, the sun and the moon, the earth,
every molecule, every atom, everything that is:
God is in every beat of my heart. God is with me, now.

Freedom

Lord, I pray for your gift of freedom.
May your Holy Spirit
guide those in power to work for
equality for all your people.

Consciousness

Lord, grant that I may always desire
to spend time in your presence.
May I not forget your goodness to me.
Guide me to share your blessings with others.

The Word of God

John 14:1-6

Jesus said to the disciples, 'Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house there are many dwelling-places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way to the place where I am going.' Thomas said to him, 'Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?' Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'

Some thoughts on today's scripture

  • Jesus is always showing his loving concern for us by saying “Do not let your hearts be troubled”. Jesus promises that he is gone before us to prepare a place, helping us understand that we are more than our human experience and that all our needs can be found in him. “I am the way, the truth and the life. “
  • Acknowledging our humanness, we are assured that we are more than our life on earth, that we are not alone, or abandoned by God. We come as we are to God handing over all our troubles.

Can I imagine myself sitting quietly with Jesus?
I looking silently at him and He at me.

Prayer for peace:

Following days of rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine, Pope Francis called on Christians around the world to fast and pray for peace in Eastern Europe this coming Ash Wednesday.
