Daily Prayer - 2022-01-18

Presence

I remind myself that I am in your presence O Lord.
I will take refuge in your loving heart.
You are my strength in times of weakness.
You are my comforter in times of sorrow.

Freedom

I try to let go of concerns and worries
that may be dragging me down at this present moment.
I place any concerns I have in Gods hands
- at least for these few minutes of prayer.

Consciousness

Dear Jesus may I always be aware of your presence,
Your power and your Love,
all the days of my life.

The Word of God

Mark 2:23-28

One sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields; and as they made their way his disciples began to pluck heads of grain. The Pharisees said to him, "Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the sabbath?" And he said to them, "Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need of food? He entered the house of God, when Abiathar was high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and he gave some to his companions." Then he said to them, "The sabbath was made for humankind, and not humankind for the sabbath; so the Son of Man is lord even of the sabbath."

Some thoughts on today's scripture

Active
Default
  • Controversy between Jesus and the Pharisees rustles through the pages of Mark’s Gospel. Jesus comes fearlessly and immediately to the defence of his hungry disciples. Human need supersedes the ritual demands of the Sabbath.
  • Forgiveness, mercy, and compassion are at the heart of true religion. Without these all the rest is meaningless and an empty performance. Lord, would others see me as a truly religious person?

Conversation

Lord, you have engraved my name
on the palm of your hand.
Even if others forget me,
you never will.

Conclusion

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning,
is now and ever shall be,
world without end.

Amen
