Daily Prayer - 2021-10-16

Presence

"I stand at the door and knock," says the Lord.
What a wonderful privilege
that the Lord of all creation desires to come to me.
I welcome His presence.

Freedom

Lord, you granted me the great gift of freedom.
In these times, O Lord, grant that I may be free
from any form of racism or intolerance.
Remind me, Lord, that we are all equal
in your loving eyes.

Consciousness

Lord you have called me ‘the light of the world’.
Let me be always conscious of those you want me to serve,
The hungry and the homeless,
The sick and the destitute,
The stranger and the refugee.

The Word of God

Luke 12:8-12

Jesus said to the disciples, "And I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man also will acknowledge before the angels of God; but whoever denies me before others will be denied before the angels of God. And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven; but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. When they bring you before the synagogues, the rulers, and the authorities, do not worry about how you are to defend yourselves or what you are to say; for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that very hour what you ought to say."

Some thoughts on today's scripture

Active
Default
  • Acknowledging Jesus comes from how we see him and from our relationship with him. He desires to be received and welcomed as the Lord of our lives. We are to live out of that relationship. Lord, help us know you more fully, that we may love you more deeply and serve you more courageously in our daily lives.
  • It is not that there is an unforgiveable sin, but people can become so obstinate that they are not open to the forgiveness and the gift of the Holy Spirit. Life presents challenges to living our faith, but we are reassured that God gives us what we need in the midst of trial (see also Matt 10:16-25). We pray for the faith to rely on the Lord in all situations, knowing that his power behind us is greater than any task ahead.

Conversation

Conversation requires talking and listening.
As I talk to Jesus may I also learn to be still and listen.
I picture the gentleness in His eyes
and the smile full of love as he gazes on me.
I can be totally honest with Jesus as I tell Him of my worries and my cares.
I will open up my heart to Him as I tell Him of my fears and my doubts.
I will ask Him to help me to place myself fully in His care,
to abandon myself to Him,
knowing that He always wants what is best for me.

Conclusion

I thank God for these few moments we have spent alone together and for any insights I may have been given concerning the text.
