Daily Prayer - 2021-10-09

Presence

I remind myself that, as I sit here now,
God is gazing on me with love and holding me in being.
I pause for a moment and think of this.

Freedom

I try to let go of concerns and worries
that may be dragging me down at this present moment.
I place any concerns I have in Gods hands
- at least for these few minutes of prayer.

Consciousness

When I return to my everyday tasks,
remind me, Lord,
that you are always there beside me.
I need never despair.

The Word of God

Luke 11:27-28

While Jesus was speaking, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, "Blessed is the womb that bore you and the breasts that nursed you!" But he said, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it!"

Some thoughts on today's scripture

Active
Default
  • Prophetic voices ring out in every age and in strange places. Many are not heard, being readily dismissed. Often they proclaim profound messages that inspire life. We are blessed to know you Lord, give us ears that are more attuned to the word you declare to us that it may find a home in us, nourishing us and guiding us in our following of you.
  • We are called to hear the word and put it into action. It has to be incarnated in life (for example, see James 1:22-25 and Mathew 7:24-27 where it is likened to building on rock). Listening and forgetting or ignoring the word means missing the opportunity. God’s word is fruitful. We pray that we may be like Mary who prayed ‘let it be done to me according to your word’ (Luke 1:38).

Conversation

“Stay and watch with me.”
Your words, Lord, to the disciples
before your suffering and death.
I know, Lord, You will stay and watch over me
all the days of my life.

Conclusion

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning,
is now and ever shall be,
world without end.

Amen

Prayer for peace:

Following days of rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine, Pope Francis called on Christians around the world to fast and pray for peace in Eastern Europe this coming Ash Wednesday.
“I invite everyone to make March 2, Ash Wednesday, a day of fasting for peace, I encourage believers in a special way to devote themselves intensely to prayer and fasting on that day. May the Queen of Peace protect the world from the folly of war.” Pope Francis, 25/02/2022
