Daily Prayer - 2021-09-14

Presence

Let my heart rejoice and be glad
in this time of prayer.
Remind me often of the great
blessings You have bestowed on me.

Freedom

I ask for the grace to believe
in what I could be and do
if I only allowed God, my loving Creator,
to continue to create me, guide me and shape me.

Consciousness

How wonderful it is to be able
to enter into your presence Lord.
No matter what time it is.
No matter which land I am in.
I need only to speak your name.

The Word of God

John 3:13-17

No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. ‘For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. ‘Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Some thoughts on today's scripture

Active
Default
  • God wants every one of us to be happy with him forever in heaven. Few scripture passages present this consoling truth so succinctly as that featured in today’s gospel. Each year on this day, the Church commemorates the discovery of the true cross by St Helena during excavations in Jerusalem authorized by her son, the Emperor Constantine. From then on, the cross became more and more the symbol of Christianity, featuring in art but also in our very gestures. We have only to think of how we make the “sign of the Cross” as a profession of our faith.
  • St John of the Cross, the great Spanish Carmelite mystic, once had a vision of the lord on the cross before him. “How much do you love me?” he asked the figure on the cross. “This much” came the answer, as the head dropped in death.

Conversation

May your Holy Spirit guide me
In all my dealings with others.
May I use the gift of speech with kindness.

Conclusion

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning,
is now and ever shall be,
world without end.

Amen
