Daily Prayer - 2019-02-11

Presence

I pause for a moment
and reflect on God's life-giving presence
in every part of my body, in everything around me,
in the whole of my life.

Freedom

Lord, may I never take the gift of freedom for granted.
You gave me the great blessing of freedom of spirit.
Fill my spirit with Your peace and Your joy.

Consciousness

In the presence of my loving Creator, I look honestly at my feelings over the last day, the highs, the lows and the level ground. Can I see where the Lord has been present?

The Word of God

Mark 6:53-56

When Jesus and the disciples had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and moored the boat. When they got out of the boat, people at once recognized him, and rushed about that whole region and began to bring the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. And wherever he went, into villages or cities or farms, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged him that they might touch even the fringe of his cloak; and all who touched it were healed.

Some thoughts on today's scripture

Active
Default
  • St Mark’s gospel is full of movement! Several times already we have come across the phrase ‘they crossed over’. Crossing over, for us, can mean leaving something behind, in order to be with Jesus. It demands a readiness to risk, to step away from the familiar and comfortable, and follow Jesus to some new situation. A good prayer each morning is to ask, ‘Lord, where are we going today?’
  • The people ‘recognised him’. Lord, where will I recognise you today? Give me eyes to see you in the poor, the despised, the wretched of the earth.

Conversation

Jesus often asked questions of those who came to him.
Let me sense him close to me now,
Listening to my prayer and asking
‘How can I help you?’
‘What can I give you?’

Conclusion

I thank God for these few moments we have spent alone together and for any insights I may have been given concerning the text.

Amen

If you appreciated the daily prayer or have any suggestions or insights we will be glad to hear from you.
