Daily Prayer - 2014-11-02

Presence

I bring myself into your presence, O God.
May I always take time to notice and enjoy
the beauty you have created
for my pleasure.

Freedom

Dear Lord, instil in my heart
the desire to know and love you more.
May I respond to your will for my life.

Consciousness

Knowing that God loves me unconditionally,
I can afford to be honest about how I am.
How has the last day been, and how do I feel now?
I share my feelings openly with the Lord.

The Word of God

Matthew 11:25-30

At that time Jesus said, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

Some thoughts on today's scripture

Active
Default
  • In what must be one of the most beautiful texts of the gospel, Jesus bares his soul: he speaks of his unique relationship to the Father and of his deep desire to embrace us in our weakness and weariness. I listen attentively to these words as I become aware that my weariness is the door into the gentle mercy of Jesus.
  • Jesus, the miracle worker, the scourge of demons, invites us to learn from him for he is gentle and humble of heart. I let this invitation linger in my heart, as it throws light on what lies in my heart and what my deep desires are. I pray, Sacred Heart of Jesus, make my heart like unto yours!

Conversation

Lord, you have engraved my name
on the palm of your hand.
Even if others forget me,
you never will.

Conclusion

I thank God for these few moments we have spent alone together and for any insights I may have been given concerning the text.
