Daily Prayer - 2014-09-23

Presence

I slow myself down for a moment, and try to realise that God is present.
To me. Here and now. He is in present in what I do,
in the people that I meet, and the situations I find myself in daily.
How can I make this reality real for myself?

Freedom

Lord I ask for the grace to know
That doing your will is a joy
Because your will is my deepest desire
And you are always willing what is best for me.

Consciousness

How am I really feeling? Lighthearted? Heavy-hearted?
I may be very much at peace, happy to be here.
Equally, I may be frustrated, worried or angry.
I acknowledge how I really am. It is the real me that the Lord loves.

The Word of God

Luke 8:19-21

Then Jesus' mother and his brothers came to him, but they could not reach him because of the crowd. And he was told, "Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, wanting to see you." But he said to them, "My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it."

Some thoughts on today's scripture

  • Our discipleship is not determined by our being born into a religious family or just by being baptised or by observing the external requirements of our religion but by our total commitment to the Gospel and an unconditional following of Jesus. Only then can we truly be said to be his brother or sister.
  • Mother, brother, and sister all suggest the place of relationship with Jesus. How often do we take time to nurture our relationship with Jesus in the way we might with our mothers, brothers, or sisters? In our prayer today, let us acknowledge that our relationship with Jesus is really important and commit to taking time to nurture it each day.

Conversation

The gift of speech is a wonderful gift.
May I use this gift with kindness.
May I be slow to utter harsh words,
hurtful words, and words spoken in anger.

Conclusion

Filled with the loving presence of God,
Ask Him to bless you and guide your steps
As you go to do His work in your daily life.
