Daily Prayer - 2014-02-15

Presence

I remind myself that I am in your presence O Lord.
I will take refuge in your loving heart.
You are my strength in times of weakness.
You are my comforter in times of sorrow.

Freedom

A thick and shapeless tree-trunk
would never believe that it could become a statue,
admired as a miracle of sculpture,
and would never submit itself to the chisel of the sculptor,
who sees by his genius what he can make of it. (Saint Ignatius)
I ask for the grace to let myself be shaped by my loving Creator.

Consciousness

We are all pilgrims on a journey to you, Lord.
May we contemplate your time on earth,
and, with Your help, follow in your footsteps.

The Word of God

Mark 8:1-10

In those days when there was again a great crowd without anything to eat, he called his disciples and said to them, "I have compassion for the crowd, because they have been with me now for three days and have nothing to eat. If I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way - and some of them have come from a great distance." His disciples replied, "How can one feed these people with bread here in the desert?" He asked them, "How many loaves do you have?" They said, "Seven." Then he ordered the crowd to sit down on the ground; and he took the seven loaves, and after giving thanks he broke them and gave them to his disciples to distribute; and they distributed them to the crowd. They had also a few small fish; and after blessing them, he ordered that these too should be distributed. They ate and were filled; and they took up the broken pieces left over, seven baskets full. Now there were about four thousand people.

Some thoughts on today's scripture

Active
Default
  • Mark tells us that Jesus wanted to ensure that every one of his listeners that day would reach their earthly home safely. He wants you and me to make it safely to our heavenly home. To support us in this journey we need the bread that only He can give. “I am the Living Bread that has come down from heaven”.
  • On our daily journey let us allow this Living Bread to nourish, sustain and strengthen us. May we continue to offer the little “loaves” we have, and watch as they are transformed into a multitude.

Conversation

To communicate we don’t always need to talk.
Can I imagine myself sitting quietly with Jesus?
I looking silently at him and He at me.
How do I feel?

Conclusion

I thank God for these few moments we have spent alone together and for any insights I may have been given concerning the text.

Amen
