Daily Prayer - 2013-11-14

Presence

"Come to me all you who are burdened
and I will give you rest"
Here I am, Lord.
I come to seek Your presence.
I long for your healing power.

Freedom

There are very few people
who realise what God would make of them
if they abandoned themselves into his hands,
and let themselves be formed by his grace. (Saint Ignatius)
I ask for the grace to trust myself totally to God's love.

Consciousness

In the presence of my loving Creator, I look honestly at my feelings over the last day, the highs, the lows and the level ground. Can I see where the Lord has been present?

The Word of God

Luke 17:20-25

Once Jesus was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God was coming, and he answered, "The kingdom of God is not coming with things that can be observed; nor will they say, 'Look, here it is!' or 'There it is!' For, in fact, the kingdom of God is among you." Then he said to the disciples, "The days are coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it. They will say to you, 'Look there!' or 'Look here!' Do not go, do not set off in pursuit. For as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side to the other, so will the Son of Man be in his day. But first he must endure much suffering and be rejected by this generation."

Some thoughts on today's scripture

Active
Default
  • The Jews were expecting someone to be sent from God who would bring about the Kingdom of God on this earth – The Messiah. Jesus is for us, The Messiah, who came among us. But as he told Pilate, ‘My kingdom is not of this world’, but a kingdom of the Spirit. We can all partake of this Kingdom by living as Jesus taught us, by living a truly Christian life. His help is continually present to us in our journey of faith.
  • We often look to the extraordinary for reassurance that God is in our present situation. Yet God is more often found in the quiet; in quiet endurance, quiet joy, quiet kindness and goodness. Lord, let me be quiet and still so that I may find you here and now in the quiet.

Conversation

May your Holy Spirit guide me
In all my dealings with others.
May I use the gift of speech with kindness.

Conclusion

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning,
is now and ever shall be,
world without end.

Amen
