Presence

"Come to me all you who are burdened
and I will give you rest"
Here I am, Lord.
I come to seek your presence.
I long for your healing power.

Freedom

Thank you God for my freedom
May I use this gift to do what I can
for those who are oppressed or burdened.

Consciousness

How am I really feeling? Lighthearted? Heavy-hearted?
I may be very much at peace, happy to be here.
Equally, I may be frustrated, worried or angry.
I acknowledge how I really am. It is the real me that the Lord loves.

Luke 9:7-9

Now Herod the ruler heard about all that had taken place, and he was perplexed, because it was said by some that John had been raised from the dead, by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the ancient prophets had arisen. Herod said, "John I beheaded; but who is this about whom I hear such things?" And he tried to see him.

Some thoughts on today's scripture

  • Herod, like all the rest of us, had a conscience. It was obviously troubling him. He knew he had done wrong in authorizing the beheading of John the Baptist, such an eminently good man. Now the One whom John had publicly foretold was doing much more extraordinary things. For this reason Herod “tried to see him”. Are we trying to see the risen Jesus at work in our lives in preparation for life with him forever?

Words don't come easily to me, Lord.
Look into my heart

Watch over me, Lord.
I know that you are always by my side.
