Daily Prayer - 2013-08-28

Presence

Dear Jesus, I come to you today
longing for your presence.
I desire to love you as You love me.
May nothing ever separate me from You.

Freedom

Lord, may I never take the gift
of freedom for granted. You gave
me the great blessing of freedom of
spirit. Fill my spirit with Your peace and
Your joy.

Consciousness

My soul longs for your presence, Lord.
When I turn my thoughts to you,
I find peace and contentment.

The Word of God

Matthew 23:27–28

‘Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which on the outside look beautiful, but inside they are full of the bones of the dead and of all kinds of filth. So you also on the outside look righteous to others, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

Some thoughts on today's scripture

Active
Default
  • What a terrible thing to say! What was going on in Jesus’ mind? Consider how much it must have distressed him, to see the Pharisees look for attention and distract people from the God about whom they appeared to speak. Much as Jesus is loving, patient and kind, he has an energy and desire for people to wake up! Jesus, let me hear your call to life.

Conversation

I begin to talk to Jesus about the piece of scripture I have just read. What part of it strikes a chord in me?Perhaps the words of a friend - or some story I have heard recently- will slowly rise to the surface in my consciousness. If so, does the story throw light on what the scripture passage may be trying to say to me?

Conclusion

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.
