Daily Prayer - 2013-05-11

Presence

"Come to me all you who are burdened
and I will give you rest"
Here I am, Lord.
I come to seek your presence.
I long for your healing power.

Freedom

Lord, guide me always
to do your holy will
knowing that your strength
will carry me through.

Consciousness

I remind myself that I am in the presence of the Lord.
I will take refuge in His loving heart.
He is my strength in times of weakness.
He is my comforter in times of sorrow.

The Word of God

John 16:23-28

Jesus said to his disciples, "Very truly, I tell you, if you ask anything of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete. "I have said these things to you in figures of speech. The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures, but will tell you plainly of the Father. On that day you will ask in my name. I do not say to you that I will ask the Father on your behalf; for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. I came from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and am going to the Father."

Some thoughts on today's scripture

Active
Default
  • As Christ died on the cross, the veil of the Temple in Jerusalem was rent in two. It was a highly symbolic event. The veil was the barrier which separated the Holy of Holies from the rest of the Temple, preventing the people from entering God’s presence. Now, the way into God’s presence has been opened forever by Christ’s death. In prayer, we can directly approach God in Jesus’ name.
  • We need not worry about what we will say, or what language we will use. What matters is that we pray. Inspired by God, the prophet Isaiah wrote, “Before they call I will answer; while they are yet speaking I will hear." Isaiah urges us to seek the Lord while he is still to be found, to call upon him while he is still near. After death, there can be no more seeking and finding.

Conversation

How has God's Word moved me?
Has it left me cold?
Has it consoled me or moved me to act in a new way?
I imagine Jesus standing or sitting beside me,
I turn and share my feelings with him.

Conclusion

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning,
is now and ever shall be,
world without end.

Amen
