Daily Prayer - 2018-07-10

Presence

"Be still and know that I am God."
Lord, Your words lead us to the
calmness and greatness of Your Presence.

Freedom

Dear Lord, instil in my heart
the desire to know and love you more.
May I respond to your will for my life.

Consciousness

As I spend this time with you, Lord,
I am aware of how blessed I truly am.
I think of the love and laughter in my life,
And I feel grateful.

The Word of God

Matthew 9:32-38

After they had gone away, a demoniac who was mute was brought to him. And when the demon had been cast out, the one who had been mute spoke; and the crowds were amazed and said, 'Never has anything like this been seen in Israel.' But the Pharisees said, 'By the ruler of the demons he casts out the demons.' Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and curing every disease and every sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, 'The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.'

Some thoughts on today's scripture

Active
Default
  • The letter to the Hebrews says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and for ever” (Hebews 13:8). You might ask yourself who He is for you in this story.
  • Is it His compassion for you living in a world where good guidance is often in short supply?
  • Is it His insatiable desire to heal people like ourselves of the wounds life inflicts on us, especially the wound of a loss of or an erosion of our sense of significance.
  • Is it that Jesus inspires us to talk about the world of love and relationships that the environment we live in today renders us mute about? We have lost the capacity to talk about what matters most.

Conversation

I begin to talk to Jesus about the piece of scripture I have just read.
What part of it strikes a chord in me? Perhaps the words of a friend - or some story I have heard recently - will slowly rise to the surface in my consciousness. If so, does the story throw light on what the scripture passage may be trying to say to me?

Conclusion

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning,
is now and ever shall be,
world without end.

Amen
