Daily Prayer - 2018-04-18

Presence

Dear Jesus, I come to you today
longing for your presence.
I desire to love you as You love me.
May nothing ever separate me from You.

Freedom

I ask for the grace to believe
in what I could be and do
if I only allowed God, my loving Creator,
to continue to create me, guide me and shape me.

Consciousness

As I talk to you, O God,
help me to grow in appreciation of the gifts of communication.
Grant that I will speak out for those who have no voice
and always have a kind word for those in need.

The Word of God

John 6:37-40

Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and anyone who comes to me I will never drive away; for I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. This is indeed the will of my Father, that all who see the Son and believe in him may have eternal life; and I will raise them up on the last day.’

Some thoughts on today's scripture

Active
Default
  • On this day I may choose to bring before the Lord some person or persons who have already passed away, and pray for them. In gratitude for all I have received from them, or asking for pardon for my mistakes in dealing with them, or ask for God’s mercy on them. I find special consolation in Jesus’ words in today’s Gospel: ‘Anyone who comes to me I will never drive away’.
  • I may choose to reflect before God of my own death, whether I feel it near or not. It is the greatest demand on my inner freedom, an invitation to welcome the small deaths that daily life, especially my relationships, demand of me. I ask to grow in the freedom to live life fully: even my own life, so limited and vulnerable, and including death at some point, is called to live with God for eternity, it is already life eternal.

Conversation

Begin to talk to Jesus about the piece of scripture you have just read.
What part of it strikes a chord in you?
Perhaps the words of a friend - or some story you have heard recently -
will slowly rise to the surface of your consciousness.
If so, does the story throw light on what the scripture passage may be trying to say to you?

Conclusion

I thank God for these few moments we have spent alone together and for any insights I may have been given concerning the text.

Amen

If you appreciated the daily prayer or have any suggestions or insights we will be glad to hear from you.
