Daily Prayer - 2017-10-11

Presence

Lord, you are always there
waiting for me.
May I never be too busy to
find time to spend in your presence.

Freedom

Lord you gave me life and the gift of freedom.
Through your love I exist in this world.
May I never take the gift of life for granted.
May I always respect the right to life of others.

Consciousness

Lord, you are present in all things
And when I take time to simply sit and be with you
My mind rests
And I feel your peace.

The Word of God

Luke 11:1-4

Jesus was praying in a certain place, and after he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples." He said to them, "When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone indebted to us. And do not bring us to the time of trial."

Some thoughts on today's scripture

Active
Default
  • I call you Father; Jesus taught me to use this metaphor. I know that you, Lord, are beyond gender and surpass our imagination. But I relish the overtones of Father, one who knows and loves me, and whose often mysterious providence is there in everything that befalls me.
  • Have I found a word in post-modern culture for that eternally dependable figure – a personal word for God? We might pray before the Holy One that peace and love will prevail. We might pray that the earth will continue to sustain us. We might ask to be forgiven. When fraught and distraught we might pray to be saved from doing wrong or being subjected to evil action. To whom do we pray?

Conversation

God’s Word is always fruitful.
How is it touching me now
As I reflect on what I have just prayed?
Do I feel comforted?
Do I feel challenged?

Conclusion

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning,
is now and ever shall be,
world without end.

Amen
