Daily Prayer - 2013-07-31

Presence

"I stand at the door and knock," says the Lord.
What a wonderful privilege
that the Lord of all creation desires to come to me.
I welcome His presence.

Freedom

Lord, I let go of the worries, resentments and fears
That I can sometimes hold on to so tightly.
Let me open my hands and my heart to receive freely
All the gifts that I need at this time.

Consciousness

I ask how I am within myself today?
Am I particularly tired, stressed, or off-form?
If any of these characteristics apply,
can I try to let go of the concerns that disturb me?

The Word of God

Matthew 13:44-46

‘The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which someone found and hid; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. ‘Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls; on finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.

Some thoughts on today's scripture

Active
Default
  • In the second parable the Kingdom is compared to the seeker of the Kingdom. As Pascal learnt from God in prayer, ‘Take comfort, you would not be seeking me unless you had already found me’.
  • Seekers, who may be unclear about what exactly they are seeking but who pursue their search with sincerity, show by this very fact that God is with them. Their peace will be in the seeking, as it will eventually be in the finding.
  • “Let me seek you in desiring you; let me desire you in seeking you; let me find you in loving you; let me love you in finding you. (Saint Anselm).

Conversation

Lord, you have engraved my name
on the palm of your hand.
Even if others forget me,
you never will.

Conclusion

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning,
is now and ever shall be,
world without end.

Amen
