Daily Prayer - 2013-07-21

My soul longs for your presence, Lord.
When I turn my thoughts to You,
I find peace and contentment.

Lord grant me the grace
to have freedom of the spirit.
Cleanse my heart and soul
so I may live joyously in your love.

In the presence of my loving Creator,
I look honestly at my feelings over the last day,
the highs, the lows and the level ground.
Can I see where the Lord has been present?

The Word of God

Luke 10:38-42

Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a certain village, where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to what he was saying. But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to him and asked, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me." But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her."

Some thoughts on today's scripture

  • Busy people can miss out by not taking time for recreation. Do I ever find that I can be caught up in many events in my life and that I’m missing out on the deeper things? Jesus today reminds us that to spend some time listening to his word is the one thing that is necessary to help put our lives into proper perspective.
  • I thank the Lord that I have responded to his invitation today and enjoy listening to him.

Sometimes I wonder what I might say if I were to meet you in person Lord.
I think I might say "Thank You Lord" for always being there for me.
I know with certainty there were times when you carried me, Lord.
When it was through your strength I got through the dark times in my life.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning,
is now and ever shall be,
world without end.
