Daily Prayer - 2013-07-17

“Be still and know that I am God” Lord, may your spirit guide me to seek Your Loving presence more and more. For it is there I find rest and refreshment from
this busy world.

God is not foreign to my freedom.

Instead the Spirit breathes life into my most intimate desires,

gently nudging me towards all that is good.

I ask for the grace to let myself be enfolded by the Spirit.

Knowing that God loves me unconditionally, I can afford to be honest about how I am. How has the last day been, and how do I feel now?
I share my feelings openly with the Lord.

The Word of God

Some thoughts on today's scripture

  • A curtain is drawn back here to show the unique personal relationship between Jesus and his Father. The distinctive and intimate name ‘Abba, Father’ appears five times here. This is the common domestic name in Aramaic (Jesus’ native language) by which a child would call his/her natural father. For presuming this unique and intimate relationship, the scribes and Pharisees condemned Jesus to death on a cross.
  • The Son has privileged access to the Father. It is not an exclusive or closed relationship, however, because Jesus invites others to participate in it. We in Sacred Space are among those ‘to whom the Son chooses to reveal him’. Lord Jesus, help each of us to experience that we, too, are truly beloved sons and daughters of our heavenly Father.

What feelings are rising in me as I pray and reflect on God's Word? I imagine Jesus himself sitting or standing near me and open my heart to him.

I thank God for these few moments we have spent alone together and for any insights I may have been given concerning the text.

If you appreciated the daily prayer or have any suggestions or insights we will be glad to hear from you.
