Daily Prayer - 2013-03-10

My soul longs for your presence, Lord.
When I turn my thoughts to You,
I find peace and contentment.

Saint Ignatius thought that a thick and shapeless tree-trunk
would never believe that it could become a statue,
admired as a miracle of sculpture,
and would never submit itself to the chisel of the sculptor,
who sees by her genius what she can make of it.
I ask for the grace to let myself be shaped by my loving Creator.

At this moment Lord I turn my thoughts to you.
I will leave aside my chores and preoccupations.
I will take rest and refreshment in your presence Lord.

The Word of God

Luke 15:31-32

Then the father said to him, “Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. But we had to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and has come to life; he was lost and has been found.”

Some thoughts on today's scripture

  • In different cultures over the centuries God has been pictured in all sorts of images and imaginations. In this parable we have Jesus’ image, which is astonishing: a fond father, who does not stop his wastrel son from bringing shame on himself and the family; and who not merely forgives him, but falls on his neck, interrupts his apology, and throws a big party to express his own joy. Dear Lord, whatever happens to me, let me never forget or doubt this picture of you.

Lord, I know that when I turn to you there is no need for words.
You can see into my heart.
You know my desires and you know my needs.
I place myself into your hands.

I thank God for these few moments we have spent alone together and for any insights I may have been given concerning the text.
