Daily Prayer - 2013-02-25

Lord, God, my Creator,
Be close to me now.
My soul yearns for your presence.

Many countries are at this moment suffering the agonies of war.
I bow my head in thanksgiving for my freedom.
I pray for all prisoners and captives.

I exist in a web of relationships - links to nature, people, God.
I trace out these links, giving thanks for the life that flows through them.
Some links are twisted or broken: I may feel regret, anger, disappointment.
I pray for the gift of acceptance and forgiveness.

The Word of God

Luke 6:36-38

Jesus said to the disciples, "Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. Do not judge, and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven; give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back."

Some thoughts on today's scripture

  • Lord, my lap and my hands are open to receive from you; you tell me they will not be able to contain the cascade of goodies from your hand, provided my hands are open to give as well as to receive. You respond in a superabundant way when we generously share what we have. I remember the old Dean in Babette’s Feast: ‘The only things which we may take with us from our life on earth are those which we have given away.’

Dear Jesus, I can open up my heart to you.
I can tell you everything that troubles me.
I know you care about all the concerns in my life.
Teach me to live in the knowledge
that you who care for me today,
will care for me tomorrow and all the days of my life.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning,
is now and ever shall be,
world without end.
