Daily Prayer - 2013-02-09

Presence

My soul longs for your presence, Lord.
When I turn my thoughts to You,
I find peace and contentment.

Freedom

Everything has the potential to draw forth from me a fuller love and life.
Yet my desires are often fixed, caught, on illusions of fulfillment.
I ask that God, through my freedom may orchestrate my desires
in a vibrant loving melody rich in harmony.

Consciousness

To be conscious about something is to be aware of it.
Dear Lord help me to remember that You gave me life.
Thank you for the gift of life. Teach me to slow down, to be still and enjoy the pleasures created for me. To be aware of the beauty that surrounds me. The marvel of mountains, the calmness of lakes, the fragility of a flower petal. I need to remember that all these things come from you.

The Word of God

Mark 6:30-34

The apostles gathered around Jesus, and told him all that they had done and taught. He said to them, "Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while." For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. And they went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves. Now many saw them going and recognized them, and they hurried there on foot from all the towns and arrived ahead of them. As he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.

Some thoughts on today's scripture

Active
Default
  • This is the first encounter between the apostles and Jesus after he sends them out on mission. His fame had spread far and wide and the apostles were so busy spreading the Good News and giving witness to the glory of God that they didn’t even have time even to eat. Jesus extends his compassionate love to them, directing them to find refuge in a quiet deserted place.
  • Jesus invites me to come away from the busyness of my life and to go into that quiet space so that I can be with Him. He always listens to my prayer and invites me to share my hopes, concerns and dreams with him.

Conversation

How has God's Word moved me? Has it left me cold?
Has it consoled me or moved me to act in a new way?
I imagine Jesus standing or sitting beside me,
I turn and share my feelings with him.

Conclusion

I thank God for these few moments we have spent alone together and for any insights I may have been given concerning the text.

Amen
