Daily Prayer - 2012-12-07

Presence

Dear Lord as I come to you today
Fill my heart and my whole being
with the wonder of Your presence

Freedom

Lord, you granted me the great gift of freedom.
In these times, O Lord, grant that I may be free
From any form of racism or intolerance.
Remind me, Lord, that we are all equal
in your Loving eyes.

Consciousness

I remind myself that I am in the presence of the Lord. I will take refuge in His loving heart. He is my strength in times of weakness.  He is my comforter in times of sorrow.

The Word of God

Matthew 9:27-31

As Jesus went on his way, two blind men followed him, crying loudly, "Have mercy on us, Son of David!" When he entered the house, the blind men came to him; and Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" They said to him, "Yes, Lord." Then he touched their eyes and said, "According to your faith let it be done to you." And their eyes were opened.

Some thoughts on today's scripture

Active
Default
  • These anonymous blind men teach all of us how to pray. ‘Have mercy on us’ is the simplest of prayers. When we pray for the world, we often can do no more than to repeat ‘Lord, have mercy on us all!’ And that is enough.
  • I hope I have the faith to call out to Jesus whom I cannot see, and to follow him into a darkened house. I hope I can answer ‘Yes, Lord,’ to the question ‘Do you believe that I am able to do this?’ and to mean it.

Conversation

Do I notice myself reacting as I pray with the Word of God? Do I feel challenged, comforted, angry? Imagining Jesus sitting or standing by me, I speak out my feelings, as one trusted friend to another.

Conclusion

I thank God for these few moments we have spent alone together and for any insights I may have been given concerning the text.

Amen

If you appreciated the daily prayer or have any suggestions or insights we will be glad to hear from you.
