Daily Prayer - 2012-10-20

Presence

I bring myself into your presence, O God.
May I always take time to notice and enjoy
the beauty you have created
for my pleasure.

Freedom

Guide me always to do your holy will
knowing that your strength will
carry me through.

Consciousness

Lord, grant that I may always desire
to spend time in your presence.
May I not forget your goodness to me.
Guide me to share your blessings with others.

The Word of God

Luke 12:8-12

Jesus said to the disciples, "And I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man also will acknowledge before the angels of God; but whoever denies me before others will be denied before the angels of God. And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven; but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. When they bring you before the synagogues, the rulers, and the authorities, do not worry about how you are to defend yourselves or what you are to say; for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that very hour what you ought to say."

Some thoughts on today's scripture

Active
Default
  • I acknowledge each human person I meet and offer them dignity. In that way I acknowledge Jesus. When I spend some time adoring God in a church I am challenged to find him in the pulse of humanity when I walk back out on the street.
  • There surely is something odd about a person who wanders through the flowers, the green fields, and looks up at the high mountains and then curses it – blasphemes against all of nature. The beauty of the world is only one tiny sparkle of the diamond light coming from the Holy Spirit. Look at the stars. Browse the amazing images of the galaxies. Think of the brilliant insights and the incredible talents of human beings. Inspirations in dark moments flow in to renew us. All of them are facets of the Holy Spirit.

Conversation

What feelings are rising in me as I pray and reflect on God's Word?
I imagine Jesus himself sitting or standing near me and open my heart to him.

Conclusion

I thank God for these few moments we have spent alone together and for any insights I may have been given concerning the text.

Amen

If you appreciated the daily prayer or have any suggestions or insights we will be glad to hear from you.
