The Way of the Cross images are from Lodwar Cathedral, Turkana, Kenya. They challenge us to look beyond our typical picture of Christ and of those who played a part in his passion. This interpretation from an African culture and tradition reminds us that suffering and pain is universal. It also broadens our minds to embrace the crosses of all the people of the world and to recognise the same Christ suffering in all of them.

The Last Supper
This image of the Last Supper prepares us to move from the pain of the cross to the glory of the Resurrection. The sacrifice of Jesus on the cross is the sacrifice of the Eucharist. It is the Eucharist that sustains us as we struggle with our crosses in life and gives us hope for the future. We watch the journey of Christ, seeing how he moves from the companionship of his friends to the loneliness of his death through to the triumph of his resurrection.

Lord, you gathered with your disciples for the Last Supper. They looked to you for strength and support. Lord, we remember those who will today face their ‘Last Supper’ and ‘Calvary’, because of illness, suicide or depression. We pray too for those who face death because of changes in the global environment. Be there for them as you were for your disciples, the source of strength and support.
